December 9, 2009 -- A think tank of scientists, led by the Pacific Fisheries Resource Conservation Council (PFRCC) and Simon Fraser University (SFU), released a statement today, summarizing the results of two days of deliberations to identify factors explaining the decline of Fraser River sockeye returns.
Mark Angelo, Chair of the Pacific Fisheries Resource Conservation Council, and John Reynolds, SFU's Tom Buell chair in salmon conservation, introduced this consensus report following two days of dialogue by the scientific community. A final report will be released in January, to identify possible factors which explain why the number of Fraser River sockeye continues to fall below forecasted returns.
